Allot of the game play mechanics are copied from AC4 Black Flag there is a disappointing feeling of déjà vu, it was fresh and new in the last game not here. There is little to no hand holding you can choose however you want to do things sneaking through or Rambo style. Some side activities are great like saving citizens, harpooning sea animals, and hunting (for crafting) or of course the naval fort activities, fort and liberation activities are the best, you have to liberate assassin hideouts to use shops and access more land. They have fixed the repetitive missions from the last AC game but the game plays too similarly too Black Flag as a whole. The missions have you doing a variety of combat, chasing, eavesdropping, sabotage, naval combat and sneaking, allot of it is enjoying as it ties in with the story but is at times frustrating repetitive and bland, especially when you are trying to be sneaky and make a wrong turn and are spotted then you have 6 different guards attacking you which basically destroys the immersion. Freedom of movement is still there but honestly the only new game play mechanic is fighting assassins they sneak around, hide and you must stay alert to counter them because they can jump out from anywhere to kill you sometimes from above exactly like we can do, it’s a great change to finally verse an assassin and to see what the Templar must deal with. The only new weapon is the air rifle which is basically the same as the blowpipe from AC4 BF but it allows you to shoot explosives which are very fun.

Most of the combat is decent however learning how to kill different enemies is hard to get use to some enemies require you to break their defense first, while others require you to counter with a gun or sometimes to stun them this has the potential to send controllers flying across the room especially when you are outnumbered.

The combat and parkhour is exactly the same as the last game. Game play- The naval combat is back and improved, it is the most fun thing to do in the game destroying and boarding ships or forts is thematic, enjoying and it actually gets better the more you do it as it is so varied.
